Legal Support Staff Positions (3):

1.  Accounting Clerk

One of Halifax’s leading law firms, Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP, (“BWB”) is currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent Accounting Clerk.

BWB provides a wide range of legal services to regional, national and international clients, including multinational corporations, small business owners, major banks, individuals, insurance companies and all levels of government.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will provide daily assistance to other members of the firm’s accounting department by assisting and performing accounting related duties in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties:

  • Opens all new file requests submitted to the accounting department on a daily basis by ensuring all information is entered accurately and according to firm standards and that accurate conflict searches are completed, and proper client verification and ID is obtained.
  • Runs a new file opening report on a weekly basis for review by all firm members for conflict check purposes.
  • Oversees all contacts entered in the firm’s accounting system to ensure they are entered accurately according to firm standards and that changes to such information are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Posts all hard cost disbursements to client files daily for capture on pre-bills prior to invoicing.
  • Assists the Billing/Accounting Clerk to complete all monthly invoicing.
  • Closes all files in the firm’s accounting system as per instructions provided by the file lawyer.
  • Maintains and updates user accounts for the firm’s subscriptions to Westlaw, MBW, Fedex, POL, AllNS, Zoom, Bankruptcy Database, etc.
  • Provides backup to the Sr. Accounting Clerk and Billing/Accounting Clerk during vacations, absences, and times of heavy workload.
  • Assists the Accounting Manager with all accounting related tasks as required.
  • Provides assistance to all firm members regarding billing issues or new file openings, changes to contacts, etc.

2.  IT Support Technician 

One of Halifax’s leading law firms, Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP, (“BWB”) is currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent IT Support Technician.

BWB provides a wide range of legal services to regional, national and international clients, including multinational corporations, small business owners, major banks, individuals, insurance companies and all levels of government.

Reporting to the IT Manager, the successful candidate will provide timely IT support to all members of the firm.

Duties:

  • Performs all day-to-day requests for IT support, including, but not limited to computers, cell phones, internal phone system, boardroom equipment, photocopiers, fax machines, printers, postage equipment, dictation hardware and software, all firm software programs and third-party software programs used by the firm under the direction of the IT Manager and Director of Operations.
  • Under the direction of the IT Manager performs upgrades and runs routine maintenance checks on all network equipment.
  • Installs and maintains the firm’s software programs and hardware under the direction and guidance of the IT Manager.
  • Collaborates with the IT Manager to determine IT priorities necessary to meet overall business goals of the firm.
  • Assists with firm training requirements and the implementation of training programs.
  • Assists with onboarding of all new firm members by setting up computers and necessary peripheral devices on workstations, installing and configuring appropriate software, providing orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment.
  • Keeps current with all IT industry trends and developments, including emerging technologies.
  • Assists the Director of Operations and the IT Manager in the development, execution, testing and maintenance of the firm’s disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
  • Performs all above duties responsibly and independently within firm guidelines and direction of the Director of Operations.

Required Skills:

  • Information Technology Diploma or equivalent industry experience.

3.  Legal Assistant - Float
