Practice Profile

Courtney practices in the areas of employment & labour, municipal, litigation, privacy, regulatory/administrative and sport law.

Representative Experience

Courtney represents clients before all levels of court in Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Labour Board, private arbitrations, and in collective bargaining.

In her employment & labour practice, she focuses on employer representation. This includes defending employers in litigation and grievance arbitrations, acting as chief spokesperson for management in collective bargaining, and advising employers on contracts, accommodations, severance, and workplace policies. Courtney also works with businesses to address their privacy and data-protection matters.

In commercial litigation, Courtney concentrates on construction matters. This includes contract negotiation and dispute resolution, tender/RFP/RFQ preparation, claims analysis, and liens negotiations. She draws on her experience before law, where she had a career as a contracts administrator for an EPC services company in the oil & gas sector.

Courtney’s work in sport law addresses the administrative and regulatory questions faced by teams, organizations, and athletes. This includes advising clients on eligibility, discipline, and anti-doping matters. She understands the unique needs of post-secondary institutions, having been a varsity athlete during her undergraduate and law degrees.

On A Personal Note

Courtney is a member of the Canadian Progress Club – Halifax Citadel and Vice-Chair of the CBA Nova Scotia Young Lawyers’ section. She volunteers at the Halifax Law Courts Free Legal Clinic. Outside the office, Courtney is an avid runner and trains with the Halifax Road Hammers.
