Practice Profile

Louis is a member of our Wills and Estates services areas.  He also provides advice and representation to clients in matters relating to Family Law and any associated Property issues.

Representative Experience

Louis has been a practicing lawyer in Halifax since he became a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society in 2007.  He was born and raised in Halifax and graduated from Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law in 2006.  Louis has also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University.

Louis’ experience in Wills and Estates led him to develop a practice in Family Law beginning in 2010, as there was a natural fit between estate litigation and related family issues.  His family practice includes representing clients for divorce and matrimonial property matters, separation agreements, custody, access, child and spousal support, and child protection proceedings.

In addition to his work in wills and estates, Louis focuses on the related tax law issues that will have a bearing on estate planning and has experience preparing Family Trusts, Alter Ego Trusts, and other related instruments from a tax planning perspective that aid in minimizing the value of one’s estate.

On A Personal Note

Louis has appeared regularly at Probate Court and in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Family Division) and has developed positive working relationships with court staff and opposing counsel, to the benefit of his clients.  Louis believes in a collaborative approach in order to resolve all legal matters as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, and in a fair and positive manner.  Louis prides himself in conducting his legal practice with honour and integrity, to achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients.

Louis is an active participant in ongoing professional development opportunities, and also volunteers by conducting legal information and summary advice sessions with the Legal Information Society of Nova Society, ISANS (Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia), and other community organizations.

Louis serves on the Board of Directors of both The Waegwoltic Club and Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home.  In his spare time, Louis enjoys cooking, canoeing, reading, and building upon his love of music by adding to his record collection and practicing guitar.  Louis is an avid athlete who enjoys playing tennis, hockey, football and baseball and maintaining a healthy balance between work and play.
